The Sun Is Also A Star

A book review

“The Sun is Also a Star” is  a novel written by Nicola Yoon and is soon to be a motion picture May, 17th, 2019. The basic story line of the novel is about a girl named Natasha and her family. They have less than 24 hours before they are scheduled to be deported from New York to Jamaica. Natasha never believed in love at first sight or finding the perfect match. She was to focused on her personal family issues to ever think about loving anyone else. One day Natasha takes a walk in New York city and almost dies from being hit by a car. A mysterious boy named Daniel saw the car and pulled her away before she was hit. Further complications soon arise when Daniel challenges Natasha to a bet saying he can make her fall in love with him in 24 hours. After spending a day together Daniel proves his bet as  Natasha starts to fall in love with him. Even though she never believed in love at first sight Daniel may be a special case.

The book is amazing! I loved the characters and the overall story. It had me non-stop reading and took me two days to finish the book. It was such a cute young adult novel about love at first sight while facing life’s many other dilemmas.

A couple of my favorite quotes are: “I know there’s no such thing as meant-to-be, and yet here I am wondering if maybe I’ve been wrong.”― Nicola Yoon, The Sun is Also a Star

I love this part of the novel. It shows that Natasha is second guessing her beliefs and falling for Daniel.

“Maybe part of falling in love with someone else is also falling in love with yourself. I like who I am with her.”
― Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star

Daniel says this about Natasha. When I read this I literally started to melt. This line was so adorable.

“It’s better to see life as it is, not as you wish it to be. Things don’t happen for a reason. They just happen.”
― Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star

I love this quote because it’s something everyone should live by. It is better to look at life as it is and not to capture it with a filter.

“You can’t persuade someone to love you.”
― Nicola Yoon, The Sun Is Also a Star

This hit me real hard because this statement is so true. No matter how hard you try, you can’t force, convince or persuade anyone to love you. They either love you or they don’t. I had to learn that the hard way.

I would highly recommend this book if you love young adult romance novels. The book is so adorable and is the perfect easy read.
